1928 | The Organization Act was amended which established Academia Sinica as an independent research organization, with special appointment of Yuan-Pei Tsai as President. The main office was established in Nanjing. On June 9, the first General Assembly was held, and Academia Sinica was officially established. The Institute of Physics, Institute for Physical and Chemical Industrial Development, and Institute of Social Sciences were established in Shanghai. The Institute of Astronomy was established in Nanjing, and the Institute of History and Philology was established in Guangzhou. |

1941 | The Preparatory Office of the Institute of Mathematics was established in Kunming, and became a formal Institute in July 1947, in Shanghai. |
1948 | During the second Council of Academia Sinica, the first 81 Academicians were elected, and the first Convocation of Academicians was held in Nanjing. |
1949 | Move to Taiwan: The Institute of History & Philology and the Institute of Mathematics were the only two Institutes able to move to Taiwan in time; books and cultural artifacts were temporarily stored in the Yangmei Railway Station depot. |
1954 | Construction began on the Nangang campus. In July, the storage facilities for the Institute of History & Philology were completed, including the library. This became the first building to be used for administrative purposes. On December 15, Academia Sinica began administrative operations in Nangang. |

The Preparatory Office for the Institute of Economics was established, and as a formal Institute in February 1970. |

1974 | The Research Center for American Studies established by the Collaborative Committee for Chinese American Humanities was renamed as the Institute for American Culture, under Academia Sinica. (In August 1991, this Institute was renamed as the Institute of European and American Studies to accommodate the emerging need for research in European studies.) |

2006 | Chi-Huey Wong became the 9th President of Academia Sinica. The first student of the Taiwan International Graduate Program (TIGP) also graduated in 2006. |
2007 | The Research Center for Information Technology was established; the Executive Yuan approved of the development plan for the National Biotechnology Research Park. |
2008 | Academia Sinica celebrated its 80th anniversary this year with the production of a documentary and publication of an unabridged history of Academia Sinica. Academia Sinica also hosted the Academy Presidents’ Forum, in which influential scholars from 13 different scientific academies of various countries gave lectures in honor of this event. The International Affairs Office was established, later renamed as the Department of International Affairs. |
2011 | The Alumni Association of Academia Sinica was established with Academician Cheng-Wen Wu serving as its first Chairman. The environmental impact assessment report was approved for the development of the National Biotechnology Research Park. |

2018 | Construction of the National Biotechnology Research Park completed. Southern Campus of Academia Sinica breaks ground. |
